AISI 12L14 is a Standard Resulfurized and Rephosphorized grade Carbon Steel. It is a free machining steel and is commonly called AISI 12L14 Lead Steel.. Lead has been added to the chemical composition to provide an improved level of machinability. Although machinability is excellent, the added lead content reduces the overall strength of that steel.

Alternative steel grades to 12L14
Free machining bar 12L14 is supplied as per one of the following alternative standards.
1) AS1443 grade 12L14, ASTM A108 grade 12L14.
2) ASTM A108 grade 1213 or grade 1215,
3) Euro norm EN 10087 grade 11SMnPb37 (1.0737).
